Retired Sergeant Major Larry James Bolden Sr. age 74, of Clarksville, TN, passed away on Monday May 3, 2021 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Clarksville. Sergeant Major Bolden was born May 2, 1947 in Anderson County, SC, the son of the late James Bolden and Sarah Elizabeth Arthur Bolden. He is a 1965 graduate of West Side High School. Sergeant Major Bolden was drafted in the United States Army in 1966 and served his country for over 22 years and received numerous citations for his exemplary service. He retired from the United States Army, State of Tennessee and Clarksville and Montgomery County school system as the assistant transportation manager for school bus operations. Larry is a long serving member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a trustee, children’s church president and Sunday school teacher. He was a member and past president of the Clarksville Civitan Club and he was a faithful volunteer with the DAV in providing transportation to fellow veterans. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Bettie R. Burnett Bolden of Clarksville; his son Larry J. Bolden Jr. of Lake Forest, CA. He is also survived by brothers Johnny Bolden, Rocky Bolden (Janis), Joktan Bolden (Terra), and Bruce Bolden (LaWanda). Also surviving are two sisters in law, Lillie Bolden and Sue Bolden as well as a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by siblings, Landis Bolden, Margaret Bolden, Dorothy Bolden, Perry Bolden, Marshall Bolden, Willie Bolden, Ronnie Bolden, Billy Douglas Bolden and Etrulia Bolden Buriss. A memorial service with military honors will be conducted on Saturday May 22, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Concord Missionary Baptist Church located at 2411 Peachers Mill Road in Clarksville. Pastor Delbert Brown will officiate. Please, wear a mask and observe social distancing rules. Interment will be at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, West in Hopkinsville, KY.
