Jeannetta Lee Houston

Jeannetta Lee Houston, 80, of Clarksville, TN, went to her heavenly home to be with Jesus on August 5, 2023. She was born on September 29, 1942 in Savannah, GA to the late John L. Bartley and Helen Chappin Bartley.

Jeannetta was raised in Rossville, GA with her two younger siblings. She met and married her husband of 60 years, Duane Houston, while attending Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville. They then began their partnership of ministry to the Church of the Nazarene where they served churches for 43 years—in Iowa, Tennessee and South Carolina. As a stay-at-home mother to 3 children and a pastor’s wife, Jeannetta assisted in ministry by leading children and youth, while also directing many children, youth and adult choirs. She was a prayer warrior and a hostess to countless families for her Sunday dinner. Her home was a place where many gathered for times of fellowship and where all were welcome. After retirement, she continued to invest in her family, and became a member of the Grace Church of the Nazarene and a faithful soprano in the choir.

Outside of the church, Jeanetta served the community as a Licensed Practical Nurse, working in a variety of rehabilitation facilities, including Gateway Hospital and Progressive Directions. During these opportunities, she continued to minister and serve others and develop positive connections and friendships with colleagues.

Jeannetta’s legacy lives on through her loving husband, Duane Houston; children, Sandra (Ron) Smith, Lisa (Terry) Hartsock, Brad (Christy) Houston; six grandchildren, Kelsi (Shay) Cope, Emily (Austin) Gonzalez, Paige Hartsock, Bailey Hartsock, Jenna Hartsock and Cole Houston; one great-granddaughter, Harper Cope; her siblings, Ed (Rachel) Bartley and Brenda Rigel; and her aunt, Ann Malone.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Grace Church of the Nazarene from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at the church on Friday, August 11, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. with visitation for the hour prior. Burial will follow immediately after at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Clarksville, TN.
