Gerald R. Smith Sr.

Gerald R. Smith Sr. age 85 of Hopkinsville, KY, passed away on Monday January 4, 2021 at the Shady Lawn Nursing and Rehab in Cadiz, KY.  He was born February 9, 1935 in Paragould, Arkansas, the son of the late Terry Lee Smith and Inathe D. Swyhart  Smith.  Gerald served his country in the US Marines from February 1952 through July of 1959.  He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.  He was employed for 30 years with Alcoa in Newburgh, IN until his retirement in July 1992.  He is a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and is a member of the Masonic Lodge in Cerulean, KY.  In his free time he enjoyed fishing and playing golf.  He is survived by his wife Ethel Kay Williams Smith of Hopkinsville; daughters Tammy L. Austin (Kevin) of Hopkinsville; and Terry Ray Hart of Evansville, IN.  Also surviving is a brother Harry D. Smith of Swartz Creek, MI,  6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son Gerald Smith, Jr.  Gerald will be laid to rest with military honors at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, West in Hopkinsville, KY.  Arrangements are under the care of Gateway Funeral Home and Cremation Center  335 Franklin Street  Clarksville, TN  37040.  Phone 931-919-2600.  Online condolences may be made by going to www.gatewayfh.com.
