David Allen Riggins

David Allen Riggins, 68, passed away on November 18^th, 2022, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

David was born September 7, 1954, in Montgomery County to Lawrence Edward and Evelyn Earlene Riggins. He was a Baptist. He graduated from Austin Peay State University and earned a master’s degree from Murray State University. David joined the Clarksville-Montgomery County Regional Planning Commission in 1977. After 13 years he was appointed director, where he served until his retirement in 2012.

David was a man of many talents: a diplomat, a consensus-builder, a problem-solver. He also lived a life of service. He was a long-time member of the Clarksville Jaycees and was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 1987. He was a master craftsman, a renovator of homes, a tinkerer, and builder of many things. He was an expert skeet shooter and loved fishing, both deep-sea and in his pond at home.

Upon retirement David became a consummate explorer and an Amtrak aficionado. He and his wife Charlie traveled extensively, from the Northeast to the Upper Tier, to the great Southwest and across the continent to the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii. They logged many miles and adventures, both foreign and domestic, as they crossed numerous states and countries. Their next scheduled trip was to Portugal and Spain.

David was a devoted husband, partner, and family man who leaves innumerable friends and colleagues to mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his father, his brother James, and his grandson Eli. In addition to his wife and his mother, he is survived by his sons Mark (Cathy), Jason, and Clayton, and grand-children Lane, Mayson, Levi, and Mason.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Gateway Funeral Home on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 12:00 P.M. with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. Bro. Mark Riggins will officiate the service.
