Billy Joe Ramey

Billy Joe Ramey age 84 of Clarksville, passed away on Tuesday March 12, 2019 at Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville. He was born March 5, 1935 in Clarksville, the son of the late Herschel Ramey and Theo Rogers Ramey. Billy lived in the Chicago area for over 50 years and was employed as a welder with General Motors Electro-Motive Division in LaGrange, IL for many years until his retirement. He moved back to Clarksville in 2000. He was a member of St John's Missionary Baptist Church. He loved the Chicago White Sox and learned to love the Chicago Cubs. He loved watching the old western shows and game shows on TV, and playing dominoes. He was known as a baker and everyone loved his brownies, chess and sweet potato pie. Billy is survived by his wife Gertha Laseter Ramey of Clarksville; daughters Rhonda Ramey Campbell of Clarksville; Sharon Salas (Jose) of Ft. Campbell; and Etoi Wood (Dale) of Fredericksburg, VA; sons Jerome Ramey of Nashville; Joel Nathan Ramey (Stephanie) of Murfreesboro; Jonathan Ramey of Birmingham; Jacoby Ramey of Chicago; and Corey Laseter of Chicago. Also surviving is a brother Hank Ramey of St. Louis; sisters Mary Linda Boyd of Clarksville and Delores Westbrook of Clarksville. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by brothers Ed, William, and Thomas Buford and sisters Dorothy, Maydell, and Ava. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at 10:00 A.M. at the chapel of Gateway Funeral Home with Dr. Gregory Stallworth officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019, from 4-7 PM and again on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services.
