Bertha Frances Morrison

Bertha Morrison, a devoted wife and loving mother to four children and surrogate mother to many others, joined her dearly departed family members the morning of May 28, 2015 at Select Specialty Hospital in Nashville, TN.A celebration of life service will be held at 4pm on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at St. Bethlehem Christian Church with Pastor Bennie Robinson officiating.

Throughout her life, Bertha, also affectionately known as "Bunny" or "Pie" to family and friends, relentlessly gave of herself for the betterment of others. Her professional pursuits gravitated towards working for organizations with missions that focus on making a positive difference in the lives of the people they serve. Her commitment to these socially-focused institutions is a testament to her desire to affect positive change in people and the world.

Born August 4, 1937 in Pittsburgh to Bertha Washington and Frank Moore, she spent her formative years in Beltzhoover, PA and graduated from South Hills High School. She married long-time friend Marvin Burns, and together they were raising four children until Marvin's untimely death in 1977. Bent but not broken, Bertha continued to parent on her own, ensuring each of her children attained a college education, a criterion that was of the utmost importance to her.

She eventually found love again many years later and married Lloyd Morrison. Bertha and Lloyd spent their latter days amongst friends at Uffelman Estates in Clarksville, TN.

Bertha's heart, courage and strength of character are remembered fondly by the scores of people she fed, clothed, taught, supported, touched and loved throughout her life. She is survived by son, Michael Burns (Vera), daughters Michelle Mitchell (Kenneth), Maria Elliott (Wayne) and Lori Ward (Edward), stepson, Gregory Morrison (Adrienne), stepdaughter, Mildred Morrison and sister Ayesha Grice. She has also imparted her wisdom to 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
