Barbara J. Trautlein age 71, of Clarksville, TN passed away peacefully on Friday February 12, 2021 at home after a long hard battle with leukemia and its aftermath.  She was born September 23, 1949 in Conneaut, Ohio, the daughter of the late Fred N. Brainard and Ruth Frary Brainard.

Barb was known for keeping in touch with cards for birthday’s and holidays and she personally chose and signed each card. When she passed she had over 300 friends and family on her mailing list.

Barb earned an Associates Degree in electronics as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics.  During her working career she worked as a government contractor and “Cold War Patriot” at a private company as well as at the Los Alamos National Laboratories in Los Alamos, NM.  She was always dedicated in her work and had an impeccable work ethic.

Barb was an active Girl Scout for more than 30 years and a Mariner Scout when she was young. She valued community involvement and was an active member of Kiwanis and the United Methodist Women. She volunteered at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta as a ticket taker for more than a decade and participated in book drives for R.I.F. (Reading Is Fundamental), enjoyed reading to children and served food to the homeless on Thanksgiving. She was an avid genealogist and held the position of Family Historian for the Frary Family Association for more than 15 years. She was generous, kind and a loyal friend to many and instilled those values in her children.

She is survived by her husband Thomas Trautlein of nearly 50 years who resides in Clarksville, her son Dirk Lang (Lindsay) of Evansville, IN; her daughters Stephanie Duffield of Los Alamos, NM; and Valerie Trautlein of Los Alamos, NM.  Also surviving is a brother Edward Brainard and sisters Dorothy Ingram, Edna Brainard, Maran Hilgendorf, Terry Hare, and Ruth Brainard.  She was also blessed with six grandchildren and one great grandchild numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

 In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, there will be no public funeral services. A memorial will be held in Conneaut, OH (date and time tbd and dependent upon COVID) In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make a donation to your favorite charity in Barb’s name.
