Anita L. Zering

Anita L Zering, aged 89, of Cadiz, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2022 with her loving family at her side. Born September 3, 1933 in the height of the Great Depression, in a coal mining camp in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky; the middle daughter of Gilbert and Margaret Mayes.

She married George A Zering on August 29, 1953 in Chicago, IL, and raised her family in Lake Forest, Illinois, where she served at The First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest for over 35 years, became a world traveler spanning four continents, an avid tennis player and a gracious hostess for many special occasions.

In 1999, she retired back to Kentucky, and engaged in further travel, and committed her time to community involvement within the Cadiz Christian Church, DAR, Homemakers, and Newcomers groups. As a Daughter of the American Revolution, she compiled a complete genealogy of her family roots dating back to the 1500s in Scotland.

She is survived by her son, Douglas Zering; daughter, Jane Reyes; grandson, Samuel Reyes; and sister, Barbara Schley. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her eldest daughter Pamela L Zering-Ungerer, brother Kenneth Mayes, and sister Gracellen Robinson.

Her funeral will take place in the Pavilion at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West on September 27, 2022 at 2:00 where she will be laid to rest with her husband of 67 years.
